What is a beauty therapy apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a government funded course that allows you to combine work and studying. You will be employed by a real salon or spa whilst attending our academy for one day a week. The course will last between 15-18 months.
Apprentices are entitled to a minimum of £4.30 per hour from April 2021.
How long is the course?
The course will last for 15-18 months. During this time you will be employed by a salon or spa and attend our academy in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire for one day a week.
When does the course start?
The first intake will be in June 2021.
Are there any entry requirements?
There is no upper age limit on being an apprentice. As long as you’re over 16, have finished full-time education and have a national insurance number you will be eligible.
You do not need any previous beauty experience. On application, you will be required to complete Maths and English assessments, achieving a minimum of an Entry Level 3.

You can study the course in our Borehamwood (Hertfordshire) academy.
Qualification Structure
You will learn:
- waxing services
- hand and nail treatments
- foot treatments
- facial skin care treatments
- eyelash and eyebrow treatments
- make-up application
- basic massage treatments (back, neck and shoulder)
You will also develop the following transferable skills which are embedded across the units:
- Professionalism and values
- Safe working practices
- Core behaviours
What could this qualification lead to?
On completion of this course you will be able to perform beauty therapy treatments and implement safe working practices which meet legal, industry and organisational requirements. You will learn to complete client consultations, choose an appropriate treatment and products and conduct a range of beauty therapy techniques, using tools and equipment.
Course Cost and Funding
The course is fully funded by the government, and as you will be employed by a salon or spa you will be paid an hourly wage, including on your college days. All students will be required to purchase a uniform and kit, the kit costing between £64 and £126.
