Hands up if you can spend hours watching makeup tutorials on YouTube and never put them to the test. Sometimes it can feel a bit too much like hard work to recreate a bold new look, or you’re worried that it might take ages, and you won’t like it. Thankfully, technology has stepped in to prevent us wasting valuable product in the name of a new look. These days having a makeover doesn’t need to involve a brush touching your face at all! Here are five apps ready to do the hard work for you.
YouCam Makeup: Selfie Makeover – Android
Prepare to be dazzled by this awesome app that delivers so much for your money. Simply take a selfie and then start playing with their huge make-up palette. You can edit your shots with their skin tones, lipstick, eye makeup and blush, or simply ‘try on’ a celeb look from a range of options from all the hottest events. If you want to learn more, there are a range of great tutorials from top experts with easy-to-follow instructions. After you’ve created a look to die for, simply upload it to your social channels and wait for the ‘likes’ to flood in.
GlamScout – IOS
With so many imaginative and bold looks out there, it’s often the case that you spot the perfect one for you but don’t know how to achieve it. GlamScout has brilliant functionality, so you just take a photo of the magazine clipping or person and then upload it to the app to get the lowdown on the products you’ll need. The app will identify the shades on the face and then match them with products from a number of brands, some low-cost, some designer. If you want to try before you buy, you can use your camera as a mirror to ‘try on’ each shade before you hit ‘buy’.
L’Oreal Paris Makeup Genius – IOS & Android
Cosmetics giant L’Oreal were smart enough to jump on the virtual makeup bandwagon early on. Their app is well designed and allows the products you try on to move with your face. So, if you use the app to see how a coral shade of lippy suits you, the app will let you pucker up and change your facial expressions, all as the product moves with you. Of course, it’s all in the name of getting you to buy their make-up, but given L’Oreal’s position as a mid-market brand that’s very affordable, it’s a handy solution for most budgets.
MakeupPlus – IOS & Android
There’s a lot of fun to be had with MakeupPlus, an app that calls itself a make-up camera. You can do all sorts of interesting things with your photo, including applying make-up filters, editing your shots and trying on celeb looks. The full makeover on here goes from brows to lips, contouring and hair colours too. You’d have to spend a long time experimenting to run out of new options and they also have tutorials for an even better look. There are also some fun features where you can try on masks, beards and use graphics to make your snaps more lively. Got a group photo? No problem! At the click of a button, you can apply a new look to everyone in the photo.
Visada – IOS & Android
If you’re looking for ways to improve your beauty regime, Visada could be a great fit for you. Simply take a photograph of your face (a selfie works best) and upload it so that Visada can analyse it. Not only will you get some tips and suggestions on how to improve your current regime, but they’ll put together a comprehensive beauty profile that includes an assessment of your skin and eye care. Once the skin care and foundation is in place, they’ll suggest products for your makeup, giving you ideas of new shades and colours to try out. Get ready for some strong 2017 looks.
