The UK hair & beauty industry is a vibrant, dynamic and fast paced offering fantastic employment and training opportunities. The sector boasts a workforce of over 245,000 people working across 55,000 businesses.  The total UK beauty industry including cosmetic products and retailing employs more than one million people and is worth £17 billion, it is forecast to grow 16 per cent by 2016.

We offer a range of career pathways designed to support students of all ages. There is a pathway to suit you and each course enables you to study free via an Apprenticeship or supported by an Advanced Learner Loan that can cover your course fees

Become a Beauty Therapist...
If you’re interested in helping people feel good as well as look good, then our beauty therapy courses will help you develop the skills you need. These courses will give you experience in a range of beauty therapy techniques, as well as covering a wide range of subjects at an advanced level and giving you an insight into managing a beauty therapy business. Our staff have an extensive range of experience within the industry. They are passionate about transferring their knowledge and skills to educate students to a very high standard who want to follow a career within the beauty sector.

As a beauty therapist, you could provide a range of face and body treatments. On a daily basis you might:
Provide Body Massage
Provide Body Electrotherapy Treatments 
Provide Facial Electrotherapy Treatments
Apply Stone Therapy Massage 
Provide Indian Head Massage 
Provide Electrical Epilation 
Apply Microdermabrasion

As well as carrying out treatments, you also might:
Answer the telephone and greet clients
Book appointments
Monitor and Maintain Health and Safety Practice in the Salon
Client Care and Communication

Entry Requirements
The qualification is suitable for Learners aged 19 and over and is designed to provide occupational competence at Level 3.  It also provides a sound platform into further learning at Levels 3 and 4.

Employment Opportunities:
Most employers in salons, spas, nail bars and on cruise ships will require therapists to hold a Level 2 and/or Level 3 Qualification.

If you are already a qualified therapist, you may wish to study The Beauty Academy Diploma course to refresh your knowledge or acquire new skills.

There are opportunities for a Beauty Therapist to find employment in a variety of areas:
Beauty salons
Hotels
Health clubs
Health Spas
Owning your own business
Cruise liners

If you wish to work as a mobile therapist or offer occasional treatments from home, you will be sufficiently qualified with The ITEC Beauty Academy Diploma. All students receive the Diploma which allows you to gain public liability (beauty) insurance to work with paying clients from home or mobile. It allows you to begin earning straight away, even while working towards a qualification.

This course qualifies for the Advanced Learner Loan subject to eligibility requirements
Become a Nail Technician...
If you are interested in beauty and fashion, this job could be perfect for you. To become a nail technician, you will need to have creativity and patience. You will also need an organised approach. Read more in the drop down tab below.

Customer service and 'people' skills will be important, to enable you to talk to customers and find out what type of nail treatment they want.

You'll also need to keep up to date with the latest fashion trends.

As a nail technician, on a daily basis your work would normally include
Provide Manicure Treatments
Provide Pedicure Treatments 
Apply and Maintain Nail Enhancements
Design and Apply Nail Art
Airbrush Design for Nails
Display Stock to Promote Sales in the Salon
Provide client advice on looking after their nails, and recommend nail care products

As well as carrying out treatments, you also might:

Monitor and Maintain Health and Safety Practice in the Salon
Client Care and Communication Hours

Entry Requirement: There are no formal entry requirements but a good command of written and verbal English language is required.

Hair, Fashion and Media Make-Up
This exciting course is designed to bring out your creativity and flair for media make-up in readiness for a career in this competitive industry. As a make-up artist you would apply make-up and style hair for anyone appearing in front of a camera or a live audience. You may work in film, television, theatre, concerts, photographic sessions or fashion shows.

This programme of study will interest students who would like to work within the creative make-up industry, such as fashion, photographic studio’s or theatre.

As a make-up artist your job would be to create the look that your client needs. This could include anything from a natural look for TV to using wigs and hairpieces for period dramas. You may also be required to apply special effects or prosthetics such as false noses or bald caps.

Depending on the job, your daily tasks might include:
Fashion and Photographic Make-up
Media Make-up
Apply Airbrush Make-up to the Face 
Design and Apply Face and Body Art 
Apply Make-up 
Camouflage Make-up 
Design and Apply Mendhi Skin Decoration

You would work closely with production designers, costume designers, camera and lighting crew, and performers.

As well as carrying out a range of services, you also might:
Monitor and Maintain Health and Safety Practice
Client Care and Communication
Take notes and photos for reference so you can keep the look throughout filming

Opportunities for Employment
The ITEC Level 2 and 3 Diplomas in Hair, Photographic and Fashion Make-up includes the full skills and knowledge required to specialise in hair, photographic and media make-up services.

There are opportunities for a Hair, Photographic and Fashion Make-up Artist to find employment in a variety of areas: This Diploma qualifies Graduates to work as a freelance Make-up Artist; Graduates can also gain employment in Television and Media.
