We don’t want to talk too loud in case we jinx it, but a little bit of sun started to appear this week and the forecast for next week is looking pretty good too so (checks both ways to make sure nobody is listening) we think summer might finally be on the way.
But are your feet prepared for it? Let’s be honest, our lovely toes (and soles and heels… you get the idea) spend most of the year stuffed into stockings, socks, boots and shoes, and they may not be ready for exposure to the sunlight. More than that, walking several thousand steps a day can actually do some damage if your feet aren’t looked after properly.
What you need is a pedicure.
A pedicure is a cosmetic treatment for your feet and toenails that everybody – men and women – should be getting involved in. Not only does a pedicure clean your feet and massage your feet and calves, it also provides valuable nail care. And, unlike most MOTs, it feels great as well!
Here’s what a pedicure does:
It exfoliates your feet, removing dead skin cells so that your feet not only look more attractive but have less chance of developing painful corns or bunions. Similarly, a pedicure can detect early signs of corns, bunions and fungal infections. The sooner you know about them, the sooner you can get rid of them!
A pedicure also significantly reduces the risk of developing a foot infection. Clipping and cleaning the toenails not only keeps them looking smart, it also stops them from growing inward. Also, removing dirt and bacteria from your feet prevents foot odour and nasty nail diseases.
Because a pedicure also involves warm water soaks and massaging with oils and lotion, it preserves your skin’s moisture. That means you’re less likely to get cracks and blisters. It’s important to keep your cuticles moisturised too, so that the nails continue to grow properly.
But let’s face it, the best part of a salon pedicure is the massage. Massaging increases blood circulation and also helps to relieve tension in your calves and feet, as well as the rest of your body. Who can resist a wonderful foot rub? Especially when it’s doing you good inside and out!
It’s important to have a pedicure every month, to keep your feet in tip-toe (sorry, tip-top) condition – so what are you waiting for? Bring those feet out of hiding, get them looking smart, have a fabulous foot massage, and enjoy the summer! And if your feet take any selfies, send one to us!
