This course qualifies for the Advanced Learner Loan

The main aim of the VTCT level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy Massage is to confirm your competence in the job role of a beauty therapist having completed your level 2 qualification in Beauty Therapy (refer to Level 2 Beauty Therapy leaflet). All the units in this qualification relate directly to the specific job role of a beauty massage therapist. The qualification is suitable for Learners aged 19 and over and is designed to provide occupational competence at Level 3. It also provides a sound platform into further learning at Levels 3 and 4.

Primary Outcome
The VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy Massage (QCF) is a substantial vocational qualification that will confirm your competence as a beauty massage therapist.

This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a beauty massage therapist including mandatory units covering the following: body massage, Indian head massage, massage with pre-blended aromathearpy oils, stone therapy, monitoring procedures in the salon and contributing to the planning of a promotional event.

You will also have the opportunity to further develop your understanding and skills by selecting one unit for the following 2 options: airbrush make-up services or face electrical treatments. Learners successful on the completion of the course will have the opportunity to complete an additional unit in microdermabrasion. The structure of this qualification provides you with the flexibility to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required for the role of a beauty massage therapist.

Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety, and client care. You will also develop a range of technical skills in massage, using a variety of different techniques. You will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients.

Consultation techniques – to include treatment plan and contraindications and contra-actions, identifying general body types, different types of body fat and common postural faults, carrying out skin analysis and identifying skin types and conditions.

Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements but a good command of written and verbal English language is required.

What could this qualification lead to?
This qualification will prepare you for employment as a beauty therapist. You will also be eligible to join a professional association and gain insurance as a beauty therapist. Career opportunities as a beauty therapist exist in a variety of contexts, including:

Beauty salons
Health clubs
Owning your own business
Health Spas
Cruise liners

If you wish to work as a mobile therapist or offer occasional treatments from home, you will be sufficiently qualified with The VTCT Diploma in Beauty Therapy Massage. All students receive the Diploma which allows you to gain public liability (beauty) insurance to work with paying clients from home or mobile. It allows you to begin earning straight away, even while working towards a qualification.
Who supports this qualification?
This qualification is based on the beauty therapy National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK’s leading professional association, the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) as being fit for purpose for preparing you for a career as a beauty therapist. Holders of this qualification are eligible to become a professional member of BABTAC.
Qualification Structure
Mandatory Units:
Provide body massage treatments
Provide Indian head massage
Carry out massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils
Provide stone therapy treatments
Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
Client care and communication in beauty-related industries
Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities

Optional Units - from these options you’ll choose 1 component and earn a minimum of 7 units
Plan and provide airbrush make-up – 8 credits
Provide facial electrical treatments – 12 credits

Learners who successfully complete qualification will have the opportunity to take the following additional unit
Provide Microdermabrasion – 4 credits

Course Fee: The qualification fee for Level 3 is £2,787.50 + VAT (£3,345.00). Level 2 will be included if not previously achieved. There are no additional registration or certification fees. All students will be required to purchase a uniform and kit costing £134.20 Total fee: £3,479.20 including VAT.

You can finance this course through the Advanced Learner Loan or our finance instalment payment plan. The £134.20 fee for the uniform and kit are not covered in the Advanced Learner Loan.

Flexible Study Options: You can study for these programmes part-time with attendance at the Academy either on two days during the week or evening attendance or weekend attendance.

Duration: Level 2 and 3 is studied over 17 weeks for 2 days a week or 32 weeks if studied over 2 evenings a week or 1 day per week. Level 3 only: is studied 9 weeks if studied 2 days per week or 18 weeks if studied 2 evenings or 1 day per week.

Professional Body Membership and Insurance 
Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance can be obtained via The Complementary Therapists Association ( and other Industry Associations who recognise the VTCT Diploma.
