Primary Outcome
The primary outcome of the VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Nail Treatments is to enable learners to gain the necessary practical and theoretical skills in order to provide Nail treatments. Qualifications in Nail Treatments and Technology is now becoming the industry required standard for those looking to gain employment within a salon. All the units in this qualification relate directly to the specific job role of junior nail technician.

Overview
The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Nail Treatments is a substantial vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as a junior nail technician.
This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior nail technician including: providing manicure and pedicure treatments, providing nail art, health and safety and client care and communication.

Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety, client care and nail products and equipment. You will also develop a range of technical skills enabling you to prepare and enhance the nails and cuticles on the hands and feet using different techniques. You will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients.

What the qualification covers:
 
The main skills the Learner will perform are:

Care of the nails on the hand including hand massage and application of polish
Care of the nails on the feet including foot massage and application of polish
Applying and maintaining nail enhancements - liquid and powder, gel and wraps

The Learner will also develop knowledge about the structure and functions of the nails and skin, contraindications to treatment, nail and skin analysis, related health and safety and client care and communication which is essential in order to work and be successful in the industry.
This qualification also provides:

The related knowledge and understanding required to perform the nail treatments listed above as well as understanding the structures that the Learners will be working over in particular recognition of skin types, skin and nail diseases and reasons that may affect whether a client should or should not be treated.
What could this qualification lead to?

This qualification will prepare you for employment as a junior nail technician. You will also be eligible to join a professional association and gain insurance as a junior nail technician. Career opportunities as a junior nail technician exist in a variety of contexts, including:

Working in a commercial nail or beauty salon.
Working in a retail concession nail bar.
Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings.

Whilst the primary purpose of this qualification is to prepare you for employment as a junior nail technician, you may choose to develop your skills further by undertaking the Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology qualification.
Who supports this qualification?

This qualification is based on the beauty therapy National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK’s leading professional association, the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) as being fit for purpose for preparing you for a career as a junior nail technician. Holders of this qualification are eligible to become a professional member of BABTAC.

Flexible Study Options: You can study for these programmes part-time with attendance at the Academy either on two days during the week or evening attendance.

Duration: 4 weeks if studied for 2 days a week or 8 weeks if studied over 2 evenings a week or 8 weeks if studied one day a week.

Entry Requirement: There are no formal entry requirements but a good command of written and verbal English language is required.
Funding

If you are aged over 19, and you are unemployed and in receipt of benefits and looking to return to work then the VTCT level 2 Certificate in Nail Treatments will be Government funded. All students will be required to purchase a uniform and product kit costing £236.00.
